Meet the Mentors…

Deanne Weir

Media entrepreneur, company director and philanthropist Deanne Weir has more than 20 years’ experience in media and communications. Deanne chairs the boards of four private companies including Hoodlum, a BAFTA and Emmy award-winning production company, and Ai-Media, a global innovator in speech-to-text services for broadcast and education.  Deanne is Deputy Chair of Screen Australia and a board member of both the Australian Women Donor’s Network and Playwriting Australia. In 2012, Deanne and her husband launched The WeirAnderson Foundation.  
The foundation invests in projects aimed at improving the lives of women and girls.

David Flanagan

David was the founding Managing Director of Atlas Iron Limited in 2004, growing the company from a $9 million exploration business to an ASX top 200 listed iron ore exporter.  He is also the Chancellor of Murdoch University and during 2014 was named the Western Australian of the Year and the Western Australian Business Leader of the Year.

Erica Smyth

Erica was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2010 by The Chamber of Mines & Energy (WA) as part of the Women in Resources Award for her contribution to the industry and was also included in the Women in Mining (UK) list of 100 Inspirational Women in Mining in 2013. She has also been awarded an Honorary Doctor of Letters from the University of Western Australia in 2008. She is the former Chair of Toro Energy Ltd, an ASX listed company, and director of Emeco, ANSTO, the Royal Flying Doctor Services in WA and the Diabetes Research Foundation of WA, as well as being an Ambassador for 100 Women.

John Barrington

John is Managing Director of strategy firm Barrington Consulting Group and has over 15 years’ experience advising corporate, non-profit and government boards in the areas of strategic planning, development and governance of organisations. John has 13 years’ experience in the information technology industry and 20 years in strategic consulting. He is currently Chair of Anglicare WA and the Perth International Arts Festival and has previously advised organisations including BHP Billiton, RAC Holdings and Rio Tinto.

Rabia Siddique

Rabia is a humanitarian, speaker and author; a criminal and human rights lawyer and a retired British Army Officer. In 2013, Rabia wrote and published her memoir, ‘Equal Justice’, about her time in Iraq as part of the British Army.  Rabia has been awarded a Queen’s commendation in 2006 for her human rights work in Iraq, was Runner Up for Australian Woman of the Year UK in 2009, was named one of the 2014 Telstra Business Women’s Award Finalist; and, also in 2014, was named one of the 100 most influential women in Australia by Westpac and the Australian Financial Review.  Rabia is Patron of the Borderless Gandhi Project and an Ambassador for The Esther Foundation, Ishar Multicultural Health Centre, Angelhands, and 100 Women.

Maria Saraceni

Maria is currently a Barrister at Francis Burt Chambers. Maria has previously been Partner at Norton Rose Australia and Jackson McDonald. She principally practices in the areas of employment, industrial relations and occupational safety and health. Maria is an Adjunct Professor at Murdoch University School of Law; Vice President of the Industrial Foundation for Accident Prevention and is one of 100 Women’s Ambassadors.
